She was one of the first Black students admitted to college (she first earned a degree in mathematics and studied vocal music afterward). She made her debut in both opera and recital in 1974, and her subsequent brilliant career is well known to all. While pursuing her career as a singer, she has also devoted herself to supporting refugees and has received various awards as an activist; her presence has become incredibly significant to the world. This “Musical Portrait” is a compilation that serves as a portrait of Hendrix—a woman who wishes to help people in this world through music.\n--“I conceived this program to encompass my entire recording history—from my very first recording, a collection of French opera arias for Philips, to my latest release on my own label, ArteVerum. I am delighted that I was able to include recordings from Gramophone, Erato, Telarc, and Sony as well.
