Michael Keener, born in Switzerland in 1950, is a veteran harpsichordist who studied under Leonhardt in Amsterdam. In addition to being active as a soloist, he has performed with Il Giardino armonico, Il Gardellino, and others. This album is a powerful performance of the complete works of the average temperament, which is a very strong four-part team, and the strength and sincerity with which he plays the second volume in A-flat major and G-sharp minor, which could be played technically on the harpsichord or piano, is astonishing. The recording was made on a wonderful instrument (made in 1978) by master craftsman William Dowd. It is modeled after the 1730 harpsichord of Nicolas Blanchet, the most famous French harpsichord maker of Bach's time. King International
