Composer InformationFederigo Fiorillo was born in 1755 in Braunschweig, Germany. This is because his father Ignazio Fiorillo [1715-1787], a composer, court music master and mandolinist born in Naples, worked for Karl I [1713-1780], Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (his brother was the art historian Johann Dominick Fiorillo [ 1748-1821]). Federigo Fiorillo first learned to play the mandolin from his father and also learned to play the violin. After becoming independent, Fiorillo seems to have been active as a performer, giving a concert as a violin soloist in St. Petersburg in 1777.From 1780 to the following year, he stayed in Poland as a soloist on violin and mandolin; in 1782, he was appointed music director of the New German Theatre in Riga, Latvia, where he stayed for two years; and in 1785, after a very successful concert at the \"Concert Spiritual\" in Paris, he composed music and published several works, staying there for three years.
