Following Eileen Joyce, Harriet Cohen, Eileen Schaller, and Myra Hess, the fifth in the series is the complete HMV recordings of Maura Limpany (1916-2005), a high school student in Massey's later years! In 1937, when Massey was 79 years old, Limpany studied piano with him, and the following year, in 1938, he won the second prize at the Isay International Competition (now the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition), second only to Guilleris.He is also known as a specialist in the Romantic and Russian repertoire, having recorded the British premiere of Khachaturian's piano concerto in the 1940s and the complete Rachmaninoff preludes for Decca.
