Zimmermann recorded this piece with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lutoslawski for DG in 1989, and this 2013 recording is the first re-recording in nearly 20 years. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Simon Rattle, co-conducts the recording.
