As a young man, he showed great promise as a violin virtuoso, but an injury to his left hand forced him to give up performing and devote himself to teaching and composing. Although he died suddenly in 1957 at the age of 53, his works are highly acclaimed and have contributed greatly to the development of contemporary Polish music. Malawski's orchestral music is characterized by folk elements and powerful compositions, and shares similarities with his contemporary composer, Lutoslawski. His music is characterized by a combination of varied rhythms and contrasting melodies, making a strong impression. This album includes the \"Symphonic Exercises\" from 1947 with its impressive dialogue between piano and orchestra, the \"Popular Suite\" full of original expression despite being written under Soviet influence, the \"Overture\" and \"Toccata\" reminiscent of Lutoslawski's works, as well as the \"Gral Mountain Folk Trilogy,\" which was discarded by the composer. These works were reconstructed in 1988 by cellist, conductor, and composer Kazimierz Wieckomirski from surviving materials.
