After studying music on his own, he studied under Siegfried Dehn in Berlin at Spohr's suggestion. His works attracted attention early on, and in the 1850s he was described as \"Liszt's successor.\" The premiere of his Requiem in F minor in 1862 established his reputation, and he subsequently taught composition at the Conservatory in Berlin. Since then, he has taught composition at the Berlin Conservatory, where he trained many students, including Stanford and Paderewski. He left behind many chamber music works, mainly in a conservative style, but sometimes incorporating advanced harmony, and at the time, his reputation was on a par with Brahms'. The \"Piano Suites,\" which were also intended to be educational, were dedicated to Dane's student, Theodor Kluck. The first piece is a Beethovenian piece that adheres to a strict sonata form, while the second is a tarantella-like improvisation suitable for honing one's technique. The third is a lively scherzo reminiscent of Chopin, and the fourth is a graceful notturno with ornamentation that demands singing expression. The \"Six Fugues\" is a three-part counterpoint piece written in the context of the Bach revival.The first is large in scale, the second lighthearted, the third lively, the fourth longest and richest sounding, the fifth lyrical, and the sixth with its two themes. The \"Ten Piano Pieces\" are all short but show a wide variety of character. They include preludes, scherzos, a mazurka-like andante, a gentle piece reminiscent of a \"mute,\" a Hungarian-inspired piece reminiscent of Liszt, and a playful scherzo. The final piece, \"Hymne Hymn,\" has a magnificent sound reminiscent of Schumann.\n\nThe performance is by Scottish pianist Elizabeth Hogan. She studied at the Liszt School of Music in Budapest, the Royal College of Music, and the Royal Birmingham Academy of Music, and has won numerous awards.\n\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Naxos","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51868432400673,"sku":"4945604747035","price":15.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4945604747035.jpg?v=1759230255","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/it-it\/products\/4945604747035","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
