This release includes five trios. No. 16, published in London in June 1790, was written so that the violin part can be played on the flute (it is played on the album on the violin), and the contrast between the fast and slow movements is superb. No. 35 was written around 1764-65 and features a brilliant piano part. No. 37 was composed before 1766 and published by Hummel. It opens with a slow Adagio, followed by a dashing second movement and a breezy Menuetto. No. 41 was composed before 1767; the three instruments are treated as equals. No. 19 was published in London in 1794. The first movement is in the form of a double variation, the second movement has an attractive melody in the upper register, and the third movement turns to G major. The performance is by the Oberlin Trio, formed in 1982 by the faculty of the Oberlin College of Music.
