The first in a series of performances of French composer Charles-Marie Vidor's "Organ Symphony" by virtuoso Wolfgang Rüpzam. He remained in this position for 64 years, introducing organ works by Bach and others, as well as writing many of his own works. Although he wrote other works as well, his ten "Organ Symphonies" are probably the best-loved symphonies of all time. Symphonies are not orchestral works, but rather "large-scale organ sonatas," a genre that was popular at the time, meaning that symphonic sounds are used to the fullest extent. This first collection includes Nos. 1 and 2, which were written early in his career. Although these two rarely heard works are still written in the classical suite form, they are quite innovative and show Vidor's ingenuity. Naxos Japan
