Description:
Eugene Zador was born in Bartaszek, Hungary, and contributed significantly to the development of film music in the United States in the 1940s. His sixth album for the NAXOS label also features works that make full use of his characteristic rich expressiveness and colorful sound. The opening work, "Tarantella-Scherzo," dates from 1941-1942, shortly after he settled in Los Angeles. The lively melody played by a large orchestra is full of overflowing energy. 1970's "Music for Clarinet and Strings" was commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. The Trombone Concerto is a technical work that only Zador, who learned the instrument as a young man, could have written. The album's main work, "Sinfonia Technica" is the only work he composed in the neoclassical style. It is Zador's own unique music, functional yet with a touch of Respighi-esque resonance.
