This album contains two works, \"My Father Knew Charles Ives\" from 2003 and \"Harmonielere (Harmony)\" from 1985. Father Knew Charles Ives\" is a title proposed by Morton Feldman, but it is not known if Adams' father actually knew Ives, and the album is a tribute to Charles Ives, whom Adams says was a great influence on him. Harmonielere is a successful work from the 1980s. The title is taken from Schoenberg's book. The piece retains a minimalist style while the large late Romantic orchestral sound creates a magnificent effect, and it has become an established part of the concert repertoire in Europe and the United States. In recent years, the piece has been in the limelight in Japan as well, with performances by the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
