The composition is composed of a four-member chorus, viola da gamba-centered strings (two violins also participate), rich brass and basso continuo, and the spontaneity of each section is balanced perfectly with the overall leadership. The dependability with which the individuality of each piece and movement clearly emerges is truly unique to Vox Luminis. The instrumentalists include veterans such as Simen van Mechelen and Claire McIntyre on sackbut (trombone) and James Munroe on double bass, as well as such soloists as Josh Cheatham on gamba and Anthony Romaniuk on harpsichord. The group also includes veteran musicians such as bassist James Mann Low.Schütz's late work, \"The Christmas Story,\" references a manuscript score in the Düben Collection in Sweden, which is also known for its manuscripts of Buxtehude's works.
