He held important positions in the music world in Germany and Austria, including conductor at the Mainz State Theater, vice dean and lecturer in musicology at the Graz Conservatory, and professor of music theory and piano. However, his wife, Melitta Grunebaum, was of Jewish descent, so he moved to Iceland to escape the Nazi regime. He spent the second half of his life here. He taught at the College of Music in Reykjavik, became music director of the Icelandic National Opera, and led a productive musical life, conducting the Icelandic premiere of Verdi's \"Rigoletto\" in 1951. Most of the songs on this album were composed in Austria before his exile. All of them have sweet and beautiful melodies written in the late Romantic style. The title of the album, \"Vorahnung,\" is a song written in 1920 on a poem by Eduard Mehrke. The singer is Mariana Korda, a Kärnten-born soprano. She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and has sung operas by Mozart and Humperdinck as well as in the theater. In the booklet of this album, he contributes a detailed discussion (in German and English) about Urbancic.
