Born in Germany, Busch aspired to be a composer from his school days, and he left behind more than 100 works in addition to playing the violin. He was strongly influenced by Max Reger, whom he met and befriended as a teenager, and the harmonic language used by Reger can be recognized in his works. He was also familiar with the chamber music of Mozart and Brahms and inherited the compositional techniques of the great classical and romantic composers. He never used 20th century styles such as the 12-tone technique, and was sometimes criticized by his contemporaries for doing so, but his unique style is worth listening to.The Zarathustro String Quartet was founded in 1994, highly acclaimed for its recordings of the string quartets of Weingartner and Paul Juon. The ensemble was founded in Winterthur in 1994. The quartet specializes in late classical and romantic repertoire. Vecchi, who plays flute, is a Swiss player. He often visits Japan as a guest principal flutist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Thonhalle.
