Paale was an Italian composer born in 1771, the same generation as Beethoven. The plot of \"Leonora\" (1804), in which a faithful wife rescues her wrongfully imprisoned husband from a dungeon, is the same as that of Beethoven's \"Fidelio,\" but in Paale's work the political elements are lessened and personal love and honesty are celebrated. The script is also in Italian, and this difference in language makes a considerable difference in the music in terms of expression and rhythm.
