The works on this album are piano pieces that are rarely performed today. However, all of the pieces are highly listenable, fully demonstrating the composer's conviction and compositional skill. Pittaluga's "Suite" effectively incorporates the rhythms of traditional Spanish dances. Baccalisse's "24 Preludes," in the style of Chopin; Bautista's "Colors," a collection of pieces with an appealing motif of bold strokes similar to Messiaen's varied sounds; and Mantecon's delightful "Circus," all of which are interesting and have a jewel-like beauty. Jorge Robaina, a pianist from the Canary Islands, studied in Vienna. He plays these pieces with impeccable technique. Naxos Japan
