It goes without saying that there is a mutual trust and a curiosity that inspires each other. The two play with serenity, clash with a roaring sound, and engage in a unique dialogue of witticisms, sometimes in harmony with elegance and fluidity, creating music. At the same time, however, what is surprising is the total story of the music.The performance is a series of seemingly intangible improvisations, but Fujii's unparalleled talent for composition leads the audience to believe that there is a piece of music, and that it is a large swell of music that tells a story. I like compositions that play like improvised music, and improvised music that sounds like composed music,\" says Fujii, \"and I want to erase the boundaries between the two.\" The recording was made by Mike Marciano at the Samurai Hotel in NYC, a studio with a wonderful Steinway Model D.
