February 2018 Inaugural Concert of the 21st Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra Andris Nelsons was appointed the 21st Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in February 2018, and the inaugural concert was recorded and recorded for the Blu-ray and DVD Ray and DVD will be available for purchase. The concert opens with \"Relief for Orchestra\" by German pianist and composer Steffen Schleiermacher, born in 1960. It was commissioned by the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra for its world premiere. Nelsons is also the principal conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as of 2018, and the co-commissioned work was announced at the same time under the partnership program between the two orchestras. In addition to this co-commissioned work, the partnership includes a wide range of activities such as exchanges between orchestra members, performance tours to the other city, and educational programs. This will be a new experiment that will lead to the creation of great music through cooperation between the two orchestras. The next piece will be Berg's Violin Concerto, one of the most famous works of the 20th century, with Nelsons' fellow violinist, Baiba Skryde as soloist. Dedicated by Berg to the death of Alma Mahler's daughter Manon in 1935, this is the first violin concerto written in 12-tone technique, but it is a work that is often performed for its aesthetic music as well as its high level of technique and intelligence.Baiba Sklide's poetic sound and crisp technique are a sight to behold. The main program was Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 \"Scotland\". Mendelssohn, who served as Kapellmeister of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, is an important composer for the orchestra. It is no wonder that Nelsons chose this work for his inaugural concert. The performance is as masterful as those of the past Kapellmeisters.
