Born into a cultured German family (his mother’s lineage even includes the name Louis Spohr), he composed works across every genre—from art songs, piano pieces, and chamber music to symphonies and choral works—once he gained recognition as a composer. His most successful work is arguably the opera *The Birds*. His beautiful, sensual music, reminiscent of R. Strauss, possesses an atmosphere that could truly be described as the epitome of late Romanticism. This album features three works by Braunfels. They include his early work, “Symphonic Variations”; the “Concerto,” written after the success of *The Birds* and characterized by its rich orchestration; and the “Toccata,” composed during a period when he was labeled a “decadent” composer. This album invites listeners to reflect on the meaning of music.
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

1.Konzert fur Orgel, Knabenchor und Orchester, Op. 38: Fantasie
2.Konzert fur Orgel, Knabenchor und Orchester, Op. 38: Choral ("Sei gegrubet, Jungfraue, Wohnung Gotte
3.Konzert fur Orgel, Knabenchor und Orchester, Op. 38: Fuge (mit Choral "Zion hort die Wachter singen"
4.Toccata, Adagio und Fuge in f-Moll, fur Orgel, Op. 43: Toccata
5.Toccata, Adagio und Fuge in f-Moll, fur Orgel, Op. 43: Adagio
6.Toccata, Adagio und Fuge in f-Moll, fur Orgel, Op. 43: Fuge
7.Symphonische Variationen uber ein altfranzosisches Kinderlied, fur Orchester, Op. 15
