This is a memorial album for Sondetzkis, who passed away last year, and while all the pieces are Shostakovich, they are all very different and elaborate. The Piano Concerto No. 1 has the charm of having the trumpet played by Doksitser, a master of the past. It is interesting to note that Doxitel himself arranged this version so that the trumpet would be front and center. The trumpet's superb technique as well as the clear and lively sound of the trumpet is intoxicating. Hamlet" is a gem among Shostakovich's film music, comparable to his masterpiece Symphony, written in 1962 and awarded the Best Music Prize at the All-Soviet Film Festival. It won the Best Music Award at the All-Soviet Film Festival. It is also intriguing that it is the only work in which Shostakovich used the harpsichord. Shostakovich's tragedy perfectly matches the content of Hamlet, and the music is so haunting that it is hard to imagine it any other way.
