Her warm, fresh and beautiful voice with a matured taste gives us a sense of security that envelops us. The program is centered on Schubert, his specialty, with R. Strauss and Schoenberg added to the mix. Popp seems to have preferred Schoenberg's Four Romances Op.2, which he sang in a recital at the Edinburgh Festival the previous year (BBCL 4148). In this live performance in Munich, the small theater gives a strong sense of unity with the audience, and you feel as if you are in the theater yourself while listening to the CD.
