The young German baritone Benjamin Apple (b. 1982, Regensburg, Germany) was selected in 2014 for his second solo album for Sony Classical, a collection of Bach arias. In addition to the two famous bass arias from the \"Matthew Passion,\" nine arias are selected from secular and church cantatas. Bach's works require a variety of interpretations and expressions, but Apple's performance seems to pursue gentleness rather than rigor. His carefully honed, fresh sensitivity and restrained, intelligent singing convey the meaning of religious works to us today. His singing has been praised as \"like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's,\" and Apple was the last pupil of the greatest Lieder singer of the 20th century, and was trained by him in his later years. The concerto will be performed by Concerto Cologne, a leading period instrument ensemble.Apple, who has been adding more and more depth to his voice over the past few years and has been used in many concerts of baroque religious works, is now available in an extremely attractive Bach album. Benjamin Apple is scheduled to make his first visit to Japan on October 1, 2018 to perform Orff's \"Carmina Burana\" with the NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paavo Järvi at the NHK Music Festival, and another visit to Japan is planned for December.
