Originally adapted from the soundtrack of the Soviet-era film \"The Adventures of the Dentist,\" the piece is characterized by its imitation of music from the Baroque period. Originally intended to be played on violin and piano, here it is treated as a series of suites accompanied by poetry readings, to great effect. After the steady sound of Beethoven's \"Songs of the City\" and the passionate and lively rhythms of Spanish composer Vazquez, the trilogy ends with Schnittke's suite without \"poetry\" played once more, leaving a mysterious aftertaste.
