Description:
Pietro Auletta was one of the composers of the Neapolitan School of Music. He studied at the Neapolitan Conservatory and became music director of the church of Santa Maria la Nova around 1724, and composed numerous operas, religious works, and chamber music. The "Orazio" was performed with great success in 1737 from a libretto by Antonio Palomba, but the composer's name was removed when it was performed again in 1740, and the original score was lost due to repeated adaptations during subsequent performances. In the past, the original score was considered to be the work of Pergolesi or another composer. Recent research has identified the work as Auletta's. This revival uses a comparative edition by Bernard Titch, who collected and studied various scores scattered in Italy, France, Germany, and other countries. The music, written in the Gallant style, alternates between musical lessons and lively carnival scenes. The excellent singers and master Sardelli, one of the leading performers of Neapolitan Baroque music, give a rich and tasteful performance. Naxos Japan
