It is considered to be a work in Verdi's own style, with its melodies, elegance, and skillful instrumental writing, while featuring themes with a character reminiscent of Mendelssohn and Schumann.It was premiered privately at a hotel in Naples on April 1, 1873. Sibelius' \"String Quartet in D minor\" was composed at the end of 1908, shortly after he had completed his sound poem \"Night Ride and Sunrise,\" and was completed in April 1909. The work was written at a time when Sibelius was facing various problems, and it was later discovered in the third movement of his research score that Sibelius had written in his own hand \"Voces Intimae\" (voices from deep within), which gave the work the subtitle \"Inner Voice\".
