A hybrid musical style unique to the border city of Trieste—where the precision of German Romanticism, the melodic beauty of Italy, and the pathos of Eastern European Slavic traditions intertwine—is revived for the first time worldwide. His scores—which he had torn up himself out of perfectionism and self-loathing—were miraculously salvaged thanks to his mother’s love in retrieving them from the trash, his brother Ermanno’s determination in piecing the fragments back together, and the editorial work of musicologist Massimo Favent. The recording features the profound four-movement “Violin Sonata in E-flat Major, PVH1309,” written when he was 17— —in which a classical form reminiscent of Beethoven and Brahms intertwines with bold modulations and Slavic dance rhythms—as well as the “Piano Miniatures PVH1308,” a collection of introspective and melancholic waltzes and mazurkas. The performers are Valentina Daneron (violin), who performs with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the La Fenice Orchestra, and Cristina Santin (piano), a professor at the Puccini Conservatory in Trieste. Recorded in Castrelzato, Italy, in July and September 2025.
