The performance is by the Capella Musicale Enrico Stuart, an Italian ensemble of old music named after Henry, Duke of York, who also provide the commentary in the booklet (English). Carlo Tessarini Tessarini was a violinist in the cathedrals and courts of various Italian cities, composing and touring extensively, and his activities are estimated to have taken him to Holland, England, Germany, Moravia, and France. Aletamento Aretamento" is the Italian word for "seduction" or "charm," and "Aretamenti" is the plural form of the word. The title of the published score is "Aletamenti da Camera", which means "Chamber Aletamento Collection". The style is blessed with rich melodies similar to those of Vivaldi and Corelli, and as he was also a violinist, the violin part plays an important role. Each of the five aretamentos is a sonata in three movements (rapid-moderate-rapid), and the final Capriccio is in two technical parts. The final, nearly 10-minute variation is a tour de force that grows progressively more complex. Published in Rome The "Aretamento Collection" in this album was published in January 1740 and dedicated to "His Royal Highness Henry, Duke of York (Duke Enrico of Yorke)," a 15-year-old who was famous in Rome at the time. Descendant of the Steuart dynasty Henry, Duke of York was the grandson of King James II of England, who was ousted and dethroned in the coup d'état (Honorary Revolution) of 1688. Born in the Palazzo Muti in Rome, he became a cardinal of the Papal States at the age of 22 and remained a Catholic clergyman until his death at the age of 82 in Frascati, Papal States. Perhaps out of consideration for Henry, Duke of York, who was also an avid music lover and played the cello from early on, the score is labeled "for violin solo and violoncello.
