Born in Granada, he moved to Barcelona at the age of seven and received his musical education at the monastic music school here, becoming a member of Manuel de Falla's circle in 1948. He then studied piano with Alicia de Larrocha and made his debut as a pianist in 1949, and in 1951 he went to Paris to further his studies at the Ecole Normale with Yves Nat and Alfred Cortot. In this third album in the NAXOS series, Luis Pipo's interest in South American music is evident. This is especially evident in the \"Homage to Villa-Lobos\" and the Suite \"America,\" which is a masterpiece of the unique rhythms of bossa nova, samba, and boogie-woogie. Other original works include \"Homage to Antonio de Cabezon,\" which combines an old-fashioned melody with modern harmony, and \"Sevilla\" for guitar quartet.
