As you know, this choice eventually led to the enrichment of the contrabass repertoire in the modern era. He was also a gifted conductor, most famously for the world premiere of Verdi's Aida. His Requiem, composed in 1877 to mourn the death of his brother Luigi (it was initially written without female voices, as women were not allowed to sing in church at the time), was so well received that it won a silver medal at the National Music Exhibition in Milan one year after its premiere. However, it was inevitably compared to Verdi's \"Requiem,\" written three years earlier, and the performance opportunities disappeared, and the piece was completely forgotten until it was revived in 1979. Listening to it again, one can understand that it is a \"hidden masterpiece\" that stands out for its balance and delicacy not found in Verdi's works.
