He studied at Pambrona, then at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, and then in Paris. After studying composition and piano with Dandy and Blanche Selva at the Schola Cantorum, he became a piano teacher in Pamplona in 1920, but his marriage broke up and he returned to Paris to begin his international career as a composer and pianist. He was a teacher for more than half of his long life (99 years), and was highly regarded for the many students he nurtured. This CD includes pieces by Latin American women poets and lullabies in Basque and English.
