Wolfenbüttel Castle was a Holy Roman province in Lower Saxony, and Heinrich II, who ruled the country from 1514 to 1568, is known as a man who devoted himself to religious reform. The cantata by Georg Caspar Schulmann, a composer of the German Baroque period, is featured in this album. He studied music in Lower Saxony and became a singer at the Hamburg Opera, and at the same time he made a name for himself as a composer. Ulrich composed the cantata for the completion of the Salzdalm Castle in Wolfenbüttel. Ulrich then took Schulmann on as his own court composer, and he remained at Wolfenbüttel Castle for almost 50 years, with a few interruptions. He had a comprehensive influence on the court music world and wrote a wide variety of works. The cantata \"Nimm das Opfer unsrer Herzen\" on this album was for a long time attributed to an unknown composer, but it is now known to be Schulmann's work, especially the opening aria, which contains dissonances in a style similar to Schulmann's other opera arias. The opening aria in particular, with its dissonances, has a style similar to Schulman's other operatic arias.
