The music, which originated in 1950s Portugal, explores a wide range of styles, impressions and influences. The \"Glosas\" (Eleven Traditional Portuguese Songs) is a reworking of folk songs from various regions of Portugal. Five Lullabies, also based on Portuguese folk songs, includes three world premiere recordings. Similar in style to Bartók's Microcosmos, Album for Young Pianists consists of \"21 pieces of beginner to intermediate difficulty,\" and was written for young students. Lopes-Grasa was a composer, pianist, conductor, teacher, ethnomusicologist, and political activist from Tomar, Portugal. He dedicated his life to rediscovering and reconstructing authentic Portuguese folk music, despite the repressive environment of the \"Estado Novo\" (New State) dictatorship of the time. The album symbolically concludes with a song titled \"Glorious Journey.
