Includes an extensive hardcover book filled with documents. Released to commemorate the 125th+1st anniversary of Mitropoulos' birth. A year late anniversary release of the complete works of the famous conductor Dimitri Mitropoulos (1896-1960), a famous conductor from Greece, who made his name in the world in the middle of the 20th century. Last year, 2021, was the 125th anniversary of Mitropoulos' birth, and this huge 69-disc box set was planned to collect all of his recordings for Columbia and RCA, the two major American labels. The release of the 69-CD box set was delayed by one year due to the Corona disaster, and will see the light of day in April 2023. This is the first authentic CD release using the original masters and masters kept by the labels that own the original recordings, and the New York Philharmonic has also fully cooperated in making this an authorized release.Following last year's Ormandy\/Philadelphia concert, Sony Classical has been releasing a series of boxes of the best recordings of the musical legacy of 20th century American orchestras, including Rainer\/Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Munsch\/Boston Symphony, Montoux\/San Francisco Symphony, and Barbirolli\/New York Philharmonic, all of which were built up by great conductors. The boxed set is a unique project of Sony Classical, which has been releasing a series of boxed sets in the best possible form. The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra's newest member, Mitropoulos, who was born in Athens, Greece in 1896. He studied piano at the Athens Conservatory of Music and later in Berlin, where he studied with Busoni, musicology and composition, and worked as an assistant to E. Kleiber. In 1937, as the political situation in Europe deteriorated, he succeeded Ormandy as Music Director of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (now the Minnesota Orchestra), a position he held until 1949, when he elevated the orchestra to one of the best in the country.
