Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, a world-renowned master of the French repertoire, and Juanjo Mena, principal conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011. Following the release of their highly acclaimed orchestral collection (CHAN 10633), which included the \"Piano Concerto,\" this second release from Pierné is their first in four and a half years! Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) studied composition with Massenet and organ with Franck at the Paris Conservatory. The collection includes solo piano pieces such as \"Concert Exercises,\" orchestral works such as \"Franciscan Landscape\" and \"Cathedral,\" and three gorgeous works for piano and orchestra. Influenced by the Romanticism of Liszt, Saint-Saens, and Franck and the Impressionism of Ravel and Debussy, Pierné leaves behind works that are both technical and mysterious. This well-produced disc by Bavouzet and Mena will bring a step forward in his reappraisal.
