From live houses to arenas! The band Frank Zappa led for a short time in 1980 comes vividly to life in the latest release "ZAPPA 80: Mud Club/Munich," unearthed from tape storage!
The film includes all of the performances at the Mud Club, a small live house in New York City, and the Olympiahalle, a huge arena in Munich, Germany. Included are about 3 hours of previously unreleased live recordings. This is the first complete recording of the concerts with the lineup at this point in time, which was short-lived despite the attractive members.
In addition to the 3-CD set containing the two concerts and digital recordings, two analog vinyl sets, a 2-CD set and a 3-CD set, will be released at the same time. (The vinyl is only available on import.)
Prior to the release, "Outside Now" from the Mud Club performance will be distributed. Produced by Ahmet Zappa and Joe Travers, the Zappa family's tape warehouse manager. Both performances were mastered by Bernie Grundman.
The cover photo for this package and the 17-page booklet feature many rare and never-before-seen photos taken by George Alper, a huge Zappa fan. The booklet also includes a foreword by Joe Travers, detailed song descriptions by band member Arthur Burroughs, a retrospective by Burroughs on the band and touring at the time, and a very informative essay by Steve Vai.
