Recorded in 2023, marking the 400th anniversary of his death, this album revives the rich musical world of Galo—who served as Kapellmeister of the Royal Chapel in Lisbon—for the modern era, blending vocal and instrumental music in accordance with the Spanish conventions of the time. Many of the tracks originate from choir books published in Lisbon in the early 17th century. They represent a precious repertoire that has survived to the present day from the music of that era, despite the loss of many historical documents due to numerous disasters—including the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755—and political turmoil.
