She studied with Rostropovich for seven years, winning first prize and the gold medal at the 3rd International Tchaikovsky Competition. He began his career with the American premiere of Khachaturian's Concerto Rhapsody with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the composer's own baton, which was followed by performances around the world to great acclaim. As a teacher, he also showed great talent and trained many young composers. In this album, he performs his best works by Shostakovich and Britten. Together with the young pianist Jeremy Young, he conveys the spirit he inherited from Rostropovich in a magnificent performance.
