From around 1960 she performed throughout Europe and America, and in 1963 she shared the Harriet Cohen International Music Award with Ashkenazy, who had won the Tchaikovsky Competition the previous year. From the 1970s she became, alongside Radu Lupu, a leading advocate of the music of André Tchaikowsky, and built a substantial international career - but focal dystonia in her right hand forced her to retire from performing in the early 1990s, in her early fifties. She then devoted herself to teaching. As professor of piano at the Royal College of Music in London she trained such younger players as Murray McLachlan, Pavel Kolesnikov, Anna Fedorova, Eduard Kunz and Rainer Hersch, and as artistic director of the London Master Classes she came to be regarded as one of the world's outstanding teachers.\nDespite her early reputation, Fisher left no commercial recordings as a young pianist, but from the beginning of her career she made a great many broadcast recordings for the BBC. Sonetto Classics has been unearthing these broadcasts since 2015, and in 2018 released the first volume, of Brahms and Scriabin. The rediscovery of this celebrated teacher as a pianist attracted considerable press attention: \"Legendary Pianist Releases First Album\" (BroadwayWorld); \"A star heard after decades of silence\" (Jewish Chronicle); \"The 'lost' prodigy who became Britain's finest teacher\" (The Telegraph).
