016728148122
Diego Barber - One Minute Later - Import CD

Credits:

Diego Barber

Description:

His debut release "Calima" featured Fly (Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier, Jeff Ballard), followed by "The Choice" with Seamus Blake and Ali Honig in addition to Mark Turner and Larry Grenadier. The guitarist Diego Barber, who has made a splash with his collaborations with leading New York musicians, is back with another release, this time with a strong rhythm section! The album features two well-known names, Ben Williams and Eric Harland, but what is interesting is the use of Spanish marimba and multi-percussionist, Alejandro Coello. Barber, who hails from the Canary Islands, Spain, and has studied classical guitar for many years at a local music school, the music academy in Madrid, and the conservatory, has come to New York to perform and release jazz works with some of the leading figures in New York jazz, but this album seems to have a different flavor. This piece begins with the sound of a marimba. The band joins in and the atmosphere quickly becomes exotic." The second track, "Atlas," is an old Barber piece that captures Barber's impression of the beauty of the Moroccan mountains. The fourth track, "Mulhacen," and the fifth track, "Trevenque," are also Spanish mountain names. It is interesting to compare the two tracks, which are different from "Atlas," but both are based on the same mountain.By the way, "Trevenque" can be seen from Barber's girlfriend's house on Casa Grande street in Spain. The sixth song, "Big House," is about that house. The eighth and final track, "Elvira Maria," is a heartfelt solo ballad dedicated to his girlfriend "Elvira. Overall, the marimba and other percussion instruments have a strong presence and play a major role in imparting the sound of this piece. That and Barber's gut guitar are a perfect match. Of course, Ben Williams and Eric Harland also contribute greatly to the sound of this work. Inspired by his girlfriend's hometown of Gojar, Spain, where Barber spent an extended period of time, and the surrounding landscape, the songs on this album trace Barber's own roots in Spain and express a natural and generous style. His previous works have also had a Spanish feel to their New York jazz, but this time around, the Spanish influence is fully expressed in his music. The presence of his girlfriend has definitely had a "positive influence" on his music. Thanks to "Elvira" who contributed to this album!

Tracklisting:

1.Jacaranda
2.Atlas
3.Dilar river
4.Mulhacen
5.Trevenque
6.Big House
7.Veleta's Peak
8.Elevira Maria
