The Chiaroscuro Quartet, led by violinist Alina Ibragimova, has been recording Haydn for the BIS label for several years. The Haydn series of recordings on the BIS label is currently attracting the most attention, with the String Quartet No. 77 \"Emperor\" ranked No. 1 in a special issue of Record Art magazine's \"500 Masterpieces of the New Era\". The highly anticipated fourth release includes the Erdödy Quartets No. 78 \"Sunrise\", No. 79 \"Largo\", and No. 80. Haydn's six string quartets (Nos. 75-80) were so named because they were dedicated to Count Erdödy. No. 78 \"Sunrise\" is named after the impression at the beginning of the first movement. No. 79 \"Largo\" is named after the famous Largo in the second movement. The group is known for its sensitive and supple period playing. In this performance, Ibragimova's virtuosity shines through as well as her vigorous playing. The quartet made its first visit to Japan as a quartet in April 2016 with great success.Performing classical and early romantic repertoire, the group has released discs of Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, and Mendelssohn, all of which have been well received.
