Concerto recordings were released. They have made us rediscover the charm of these works with their overwhelming technique and rich expressive power. The new recording of Shostakovich and Martineau's Cello Concerto No. 2, composed in 1966, is in three movements, beginning with the slow movement. The first movement is introspective, the second movement begins with a short introduction by the solo cello, and the third movement is an impressive horn fanfare. The first performance was given at Shostakovich's 60th birthday concert, with Rostropovich playing solo and Maxim Shostakovich conducting.
