A collection of anguished songs by British pianist/composer Michael Charni-Wills (1975-). Three Songs" is about the tragedy of Jews living in Hungary who were persecuted by the Nazis. Hausman, who wrote the poems for "Six Songs of Alfred Edward Hausman," is known for the anxiety and sense of hopelessness that pervades each of his poems. The final piece, "A Dirge for Our Times," is a short piece using a heartbreaking poem by Jessica Deste, who lost her granddaughter in an automobile accident. The piece opens with an impressive sound and ends as if fading away. Recorded in 2015. (C)RS
