In addition to the original albums of \"Pictures at an Exhibition\" and \"Classical Symphony\" with Giulini, \"V. Williams: Tuba Concerto\" by A. Jacobs is included! This is the long-awaited first SA-CD release! New preface commentary by Atsushi Yuasa on the golden era of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, including his mentor J. Friedman!\n\n\n\nThis reissue is a project for the 20th anniversary of Giulini's death, featuring the DG recordings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra of \"Pictures at an Exhibition\" and the original recording of the \"Classical Symphony,\" which features outstanding performances by the principal brass players of the golden age, as well as a new recording of the \"Piano Concerto\" by Arnold Jacobs, one of the legendary musicians along with Herseth, and a new recording of the \"Piano Symphony\" by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The newest reissue of this album features the Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto by Arnold Jacobs (1915-98), a soloist who was one of the legends along with Herseth, and is truly a masterpiece for brass instrument fans. In addition, we have added a memorandum that one of the legends of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, trombonist Jay Friedman, who has been with the orchestra for 63 years (more than 60 years as a principal), retired in September 2025. In addition to the sound source, the commentary includes a valuable new book by Atsushi Yuasa, who is a close friend of Mr. J. Friedman. The book is a must-read for all fans of Vaughan Williams, as it contains extremely valuable information, including his interaction with his former teacher. In addition, a new commentary by tuba player Shinya Hashimoto is also included in the Vaughan Williams' song list commentary.\n\n\n\nAs you know, Ravel's version of \"Pictures at an Exhibition\" is a piece in which wind instruments, especially brass instruments, play an active role, and Ravel's clever orchestration, especially in the melody line, is a piece that listeners can also enjoy because of the genius of the instruments used, which is typical of Ravel. Since the tone of the instruments is also reflected in the quality of the performance, it is highly effective with a good orchestra, and it can be said that the color of the orchestra can be easily distinguished in this piece.There are many recordings of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a former member of the golden age of brass, including this Giulini disc, the Scholti disc from DECCA, the N. Järvi disc from CHANDOS, and the Ozawa disc from RCA recorded in 1967 (there is also a 1957 recording with liner notes). It is fascinating to be able to listen to the best performances of each recording period. The DG version is the most typical Giulini performance with its generous tempo and interpretation, and the conductor's color comes out the most among the above recordings, but the solos by Herseth and other players are played in a clear and unassuming tone, and it may be the most musical performance among the above.\n\n(1\/2)\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"TOWER RECORDS UNIVERSAL VINTAGE SA-CD COLLECTION","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52159452315937,"sku":"4988031819906","price":31.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4988031819906.jpg?v=1766317457","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-us\/products\/4988031819906","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
