The Who

Description:

The Who have released their first new album in 13 years, WHO! WHO was recorded in London and Los Angeles during the spring and summer of 2019. It was co-produced by Pete Townsend and D. Saadi (Noel Gallagher, Oasis, etc.), with vocal production by Dave Ellinga (Roger Daltrey 2018 solo effort "As Long As I Have You"). Band members include Pete Townsend (G), Roger Daltrey (Vo), the familiar Zack Starkey (Ds), Pino Palladino (B), and Simon Townsend (G), Benmont Tench (Key), Kara Azar (Ds), Joey Waronker (Ds ), and Gordon Giltrap (G) also participate. The album cover was designed by British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, best known for his cover design for The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.On September 12, 2019, Pace in New York City The jacket image was unveiled as the opening of the Contemporary Art Gallery, which also featured an acoustic performance by The Who. Roger Daltrey considers "Who" to be their strongest work.\ "I think we have made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973. Pete is undiminished, still a great songwriter, and as innovative as ever," Pete Townsend commented. "Almost every song on this album is a new song written in 2018, with only two exceptions. No theme, no concept, no story, just a collection of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to inspire, challenge, and give perspective to the newly revived Roger Daltrey, whose voice has been revitalized. Roger and I are both old men now, for what it's worth. So I tried to keep my distance from romance and, if possible, from nostalgia. I didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Memories are fine. And some of the songs refer to the current touchy-feely state of affairs. I made another demo of all the songs in my home studio in the summer of 2018, using a variety of old and new instruments. As for the Who, I started recording in March 2019 and finished now at the end of August. Now I've managed to get the LP's, maybe even a cassette... in time for a November release."
