While much of his music is captivating, it is rarely recorded or performed, making it a veritable gold mine of undiscovered gems. The music for *The Horse Thief* was composed for a film depicting 19th-century Italian independence fighters. It is surprisingly accessible; in particular, the seventh track, “Prelude,” has a tingly (sweet) quality reminiscent of classic Italian romance films. “Five Days and Five Nights” is an extremely rare work, and in “The Liberation of Dresden,” Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” is used to build tension.

Tracklisting:

.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Overture
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Contredanse
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Folk Feast (National Holiday
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Interlude
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Barrel-Organ Waltz
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Galop
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Introduction (Prelude)
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Romance
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Intermezzo
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Nocturne
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Scene
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Finale
.Five Days - Five Nights, suite from the film score, Op. 111a (assembled by Atovmyan): Introduction
.Five Days - Five Nights, suite from the film score, Op. 111a (assembled by Atovmyan): Dresden in Rui
.Five Days - Five Nights, suite from the film score, Op. 111a (assembled by Atovmyan): The Liberation
.Five Days - Five Nights, suite from the film score, Op. 111a (assembled by Atovmyan): Interlude
.Five Days - Five Nights, suite from the film score, Op. 111a (assembled by Atovmyan): Finale
