Vivanco's \"Mass for the Dead\" has never been published and has been handed down in manuscript form to the Cathedral of Salamanca and the Monastery of Santa Maria de Guadalupe in Spain, although there are some differences between the two that have troubled researchers. For this recording, we have collaborated with Tony Deymer, a member of the Renaissance Singers and an avid student of Spanish Renaissance music, to prepare a performance score. The two most significant differences between the two versions, the Kyrie and the Sanctus, are included in both the Salamanca and Guadalupe editions. The Benedictus and Agnus Dei are not in the Salamanca version, so the Guadalupe version is performed as is.
