From Farina, who brought the art of violin from Italy to Germany, to the masters Muffat and Westhoff, who later supported Germany and Austria, to Bach's two sonatas and the fugues of his youth, to Walter, with whom Silanosian has been familiar since his days studying with Reinhard Goebel in Salzburg. The album also includes a Passacaglia and a movement from a sonata once attributed to Bach, but now attributed to Pisendel, a longtime concertmaster of the Dresden Court Orchestra of the same period. The three musicians, Silanossian of Armenian-French descent, Alarcon of Argentinean descent, and Martey of Hungarian descent, are well matched and give a very passionate performance of all the works, which is a delight. In \"The Triumph of the Christians,\" a rewrite of Biber's work by A.A. Schmelzer, son of the great Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, they surprise us by playing some parts with paper between the strings of the cello, adding sound effects reminiscent of a 17th century battlefield.
