Description:

Arushi Jain is an Indian-born, US-based composer, modular synthesizer player, vocalist, technologist, and engineer who formerly released music under the name OSE on ghunghru, a label he founded and a radio show/curator project. Arushi focuses on reinterpreting traditional Indian classical music through the lens of electronic instruments. Inheriting electronic music luminaries such as Suzanne Siani and Terry Riley, while personally exploring his own musical heritage and upbringing, he reconstructs ancient sounds within a contemporary framework. This album is a cinematic statement of intent, an album in which Arushi presents a bold sonic perspective while paying homage to the history of music. The album is a fusion of two different cultures, Hindustani classical and modular synthesizer, and represents the evolution of two parts of his own musicality into one during his time spent in India and California.Drawing on the vibrancy of Hindustani music within contemporary electronic music, he uses modular synthesizers, samplers, and his own voice to create an interplay of Hindustani music with an emphasis on ambient textures, distorted rhythms, and illusory glitches, creating a highly original The result is a highly original sound. The time of day and its effect on how we relate to music is also a major theme of this work, and the six ambient synthesizer ragas are intended to be listened to at sunset, inviting the listener to go inward into themselves through conscious listening. arushi says, "the sun says goodbye to the sky and the colors You know that moment when the sun says goodbye to the sky and the colors turn into beautiful shades of purple, pink, etc.? That's when the album shines brightest. The deeper you listen, the more shades you see." "In Indian classical music, there is the concept of time and seasons. Each raga (melodic/melodic framework that appears in the music theory of Indian classical music) has a specific time of day when it should be heard to its fullest potential. It suggests the question of when your surroundings are most in tune with your own sound and breath, and how that supports you in realizing your vision of the moment. This album is an ode to those timely rituals and is best listened to when you are taking time to do what you love." Having studied Hindustani music, a classical school unique to northern India, and the ragas at the heart of that tradition from an early age, and then moving to California to study engineering and programming in college, her unique ability to recreate traditional sounds on modular synthesizers is extremely original and a talent to watch. She is a remarkable talent. This is a unique CD release available only in Japan. It includes a bonus track, picked up from a show at MEZZANINE in San Francisco in 2019. (Mastered by Matthewdavid)
