This time, at the turn of the series, we will feature Nos. 9 and 10, which stand like statues on either side of the entrance to Shostakovich's late creative period. As usual, the two works are not at all flirtatious to the listener, but rather show a strong will like that of a rugged and stubborn craftsman. The contrast between the light and introspective movement of No. 9, which was subjected to the famous Zidanov criticism, is presented as a conflict in the composer's mind, as if it were armor secretly worn under his robe.The 10th Symphony is Shostakovich's masterpiece and is highly acclaimed as such.
