Most of the songs were completed by March 2020, before the spread of the new coronavirus in the U.S., but then the whole country went into lockdown, and Murphy himself experienced the sad loss of his father. Suddenly, the \"happy-go-lucky, feel-good\" music on the verge of completion took on a deeper meaning. A great paradigm shift was taking place within me,\" he recalls. I started thinking about music differently. I now see music as group therapy. Before, I used to see it as a creative crusade, or as if I was on a long adventure. Now I see it more shamanistically. We need to look for the light at all times, and sometimes the darkness - and we need to share them. That's what I realized is at the core of the Chet Faker project.I thought the world was in pain, so I thought I could do something small to bring people a little joy. From the danceable lead single \"Low,\" which could be called a pop anthem, to the funky piano groove of \"Get High,\" the inspirational melody of \"Feel Good,\" and the solemn instrumental of \"So Long So Lonely,\" \"HOTEL SURRENDER\" is full of euphoric sounds. This can also be felt in \"Whatever Tomorrow,\" which calls out to those who have had an uncertain year due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus, \"I don't care about tomorrow, my life is important right now. The important thing I learned from this album was that I can write songs from a place of joy. I learned to take care of myself again. None of the music here is painful, just pleasant to listen to. It lifted my spirits and made me want to be a better person,\" Murphy says of the songs on the album. He explains that he was able to reach this point because he has been able to put down the Chet Faker name once and for all in 2016 and release music that explores the deeper aspects of his musicality under his own real name. I had to unleash the ideas that people have about Chet Faker once and for all. I'm glad I did that, because it allowed me to explain the Chet Faker project in context. I was able to expand my musicality and absorb a lot of new things without being limited by what I had created under the name Chet. Making music has become really fun again,\" Murphy adds. To make truly happy music, you have to understand your own sadness. I've reached this point with this work. Nick Murphy's return to the \"Chet Faker\" moniker has led him to a deep and happy sound world, a place where he can let his music do all the talking, and it's a place where he can be happy again. HOTEL SURRENDER\" is the place to let the music take over.
